Inside the NBA is Moving!?, The Chiefs Finally Fall, and MLB Rookie of the Year

This week we take a look at the movement of an iconic NBA fixture, the Chiefs' loss to the Bills, and the winner of the MLB NL rookie of the year!

Thank you for subscribing! I got some great feedback from my first foray into this, so thank you for all of those who gave it! The last post took a long time to compile and write, and while it was enjoyable to do, after reading back, I’d like to make them a bit more informal, but still capture the same analytical approach. Mostly for my own sanity (lol). I hope you enjoy this week’s issue!

NBA on TNT Won’t be on TNT Next Season

Inside the NBA has been on the air since the ‘89-’90 season (well before I was born, let alone started following the NBA), and I can see why the show’s become so popular among NBA fans.

I love watching NBA on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Biggest reason for that is I absolutely love watching Inside the NBA. Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O'Neal aren’t your typical broadcast crew, it feels more like sitting in the living room with your buddies talking basketball, who just happen to be living legends. I always enjoy the banter between these guys, and their chemistry is unmatched which makes the show feel quite approachable as a newer NBA fan.

Inside the NBA will be moving to ESPN/ABC starting next season, which doesn’t really bother me too much since it’ll be still produced by TNT as far as I’ve seen. I just hope the move to a different network doesn’t change the feel of the show.

The Chiefs (finally) Fall

Many NFL fans were anxiously watching the Chiefs winning streak climb higher and higher, and many were wondering if this team could ever be stopped. The Chiefs rocketed themselves to a 9-0 start, with a total of 58 points (6.4 PPG) separating them and their victories. 4 of those 9 wins were decided in the final play of the game. I’m happy to see (as are many other NFL fans), that the Chiefs are human after all, and they can be beaten. Buffalo have beaten the Chiefs in 4 straight regular season games dating back to 2021, but have lost to them in three straight playoff meetings.

Josh Allen threw for a total of 262 passing yards, and Patrick Mahomes finished with an uncharacteristic sub-200 yard performance, with just 196 total passing yards. KC rushing finished with just 78 yards, with Kareem Hunt carrying most of that load. The Bills’ rushing squad finished with a total of 104 yards, with 55 of those coming from Josh Allen himself.

Chiefs haters rejoice!

Paul Skenes Wins NL Rookie of the Year!

After another great MLB season, the Rookie of the Year race has come to an end.

Paul Skenes was absolutely dominant this season. Pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, the 22 year old Skenes put up incredibly impressive numbers.

Skenes went 11-3 and boasted a 1.96 ERA (earned runs allowed) in 23 starts across 133 innings. His ERA was the lowest for any rookie to achieve (with minimum 20 starts) dating all the way back to 1920. His impressive stats don’t stop there; he also tacked on a .95 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched), and that was good enough to tie the entire National League. Did I mention he started playing in the 2nd week of May??

If all of that wasn’t enough to convince you of his impressive resume in the MLB as a rookie, he’s also been nominated for a Cy Young award, along with big names Chris Sale of the Braves and Zack Wheeler of the Phillies. Sale crushed ‘24 with a 2.38 ERA and went 18-3 for the Braves, with 225 strikeouts across 177.2 IP (innings pitched). Wheeler was no slouch, coming in hot with a 2.57 ERA, a 16-7 W/L for the Phils, and 224 strikeouts across 200 IP. Edit to this post: Chris Sale has won his first Cy Young in 15 seasons! Congratulations to him!

Congrats to Skenes, and if you find his rookie card, don’t worry about it, just send it my way! 😜

Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoyed!
